About Me
From Recovery Maven to World Traveler
Hi there! I’m Cody Thompson, a policy professional with an insatiable curiosity for the world and commitment to serving people, especially communities disproportionately affected by chronic diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, substance use disorders, and mental disorders. This blog is where my love for storytelling, discovery, and personal growth converge. Here, I aim to share my journey with you.
My Story
So far
My journey began in a small Midwestern town where I struggled with addiction, depression, and isolation. Alcohol became my crutch, but recovery gave me a second chance at life.
Now, I dedicate myself to improving addiction policies, supporting recovery initiatives, and empowering others to find their path to healing.
Through my work, I’ve advocated for meaningful change in recovery support and public health systems, transforming my personal challenges into an opportunity to impact the world for good.
My Personal Journey
I overcame substance use disorder and now advocate for others in recovery. My journey is about healing, resilience, and creating change through public health advocacy. I aim to help people feel seen, heard, and supported through my story and work.
My Resume
I hold a Master’s in Public Policy and currently work as a Program Coordinator at Georgetown University’s O’Neill Institute. I’ve contributed to national recovery advocacy, policy analysis, and community health projects.
My work spans addiction recovery, social justice, and improving healthcare systems for marginalized populations.
Advocacy in Action
Through my work, I strive to create impactful change in addiction recovery and public health policy. I advocate for accessible resources, ending stigma, and empowering communities. By working alongside organizations and policymakers, I aim to shape systems that support individuals in recovery and foster healthier, more resilient societies.
